Hot Chick, Gore, And Witty Banter - Will Diablo Cody’s Latest Project Meet Juno’s Fans Expectations?
Currently filming in Hollywood of the North, Vancouver
I thought with Juno being officially released on DVD Tuesday that it was only appropriate to talk about what is. It’s everyone’s favorite little stripper turned hit indie sensation screenwriter Diablo Cody newest project helmed by Karyn Kusama, famous for her writing and directing Girlfight in 2000. This project is none other than the slasher thriller deemed Superbad meets The Exorcist, Jennifer’s Body.
The story follows a cheerleader, Needy our 17-year-old narrator and protagonist (Megan Fox) in a sleepy town whose perfect life goes haywire when her friend becomes possessed and begins killing the young men in town who lust after her.
Apparently I missed out on the cannibal side of High School…then again that was back in the 90’s and I wasn’t a cheerleader either. The films tone and language is on par with last years hit Superbad cause the ladies like to refer to themselves as “Vagisil” and “Monistat,” but the gore is right up there for any real thriller fan to appreciate:
“One passage from Cody’s script describes a scene where blood and viscera is scattered everywhere, with intestines strewn about ‘like party streamers.’ One victim is described as looking like ‘Lasagna with teeth.’ There are a couple scenes where a Jennifer graphically tears apart unknowing High School boys. ….”
I am not quite sure if this is the best follow up for Cody but kudos to her tackling on a horror plot especially for a genre filled with remakes….who’s excited for the entire Friday the 13th’s franchise to be remade? I think she is well on her way to winning another Oscar maybe not with this film but horror greats such that of Sam Raimi and Peter Jackson have made steady careers for themselves starting off with a little gore.
