The Top 25 Child Stars
Moviefone made this great list of the top 25 child stars of all time. I figured we could do a little counting down and save the “best” for last.
25. Kirsten Dunst. Her breakthrough performance at the age of 12 in “Interview With A Vampire” assured her a spot on this list.
24. Lindsay Lohan. Of course we all remember her from, “The Parent Trap”.
23. Sean Astin. How could he NOT be on this list? He was fantastic as Mikey in, “The Goonies”.
Continue reading more to find out who landed the number one spot.
22. Keisha Castle-Hughes. You’ll remember her amazing performance in, “Whale Rider” at the age of 11.
21. Natalie Wood. I think we all know and love her in, “A Miracle On 34th Street”.
20. Christian Bale. Oh my what a man he grew into. “Empire of the Sun” was his first job at the age of 12 and I think we all knew how talented he was then and now.
19.Abigail Breslin. One of our fairly new young child stars, Abigail is best known for her role in, “Little Miss Sunshine”. Of course you can also see her in the newly released, “Nim’s Island”.
18.Elijah Wood. I think most of my generation had a HUGE crush on Elijah in, “Forever Young”, or maybe you loved his in, “Avalon”.
17. Jodie Foster. I think everyone can attest to the fact that Jodie belongs on this list. At age 14 she took on one of the hardest roles of her career as a hooker in, “Taxi Driver”.
16. Hayley Mills. Yeah for the original “The Parent Trap”! Fun fact but when Hayley was 20 she married her, “Family Way” director 33 yr. old Roy Boulting.
15. Freddie Highmore. His first major role was in, “Finding Neverland” with Johnny Depp, but he later starred in, “Charlie & The Chocolate Factory” which cemented his name in Hollywood forever.
14. Freddie Bartholomew. He acted alongside Hollywood greats like Greta Garbo and Spencer Tracy.
13. Anna Paquin. At the age of 11 she was in the fantastic, “The Piano” and was also in the wildly popular, “X-Men” series.
12. Christina Ricci. She has so many hits to her name but the ones that stick out the most are, “The Adams Family” and “Casper”.
11.Tatum O’Neil. She was the youngest person ever to win an oscar in 1973 for her amazing performance in, “Paper Moon”.
10.Haley Joel Osmont. He started the cult classic phrase, “I see dead people” from the mega hit, “The Sixth Sense”.
9. Elizabeth Taylor. She’s such a legend and it’s because of her start in, “National Velvet” that gave her the big break she needed and since then has become one of the most famous Diva’s of Hollywood.
8. Patty Duke. I loved her in, “The Miracle Worker” and I’m glad to know she landed in the top ten.
7. Jackie Cooper. He won an Oscar nomination at the age of 9 for his movie, “Skippy”.
6. Dakota Fanning. Dakota was the youngest person ever nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for her role in, “I Am Sam”.
5. Drew Barrymore. The quintessential child star. Drew got her major start in, “E.T.” and struggled well into the late 90’s. Thankfully she’s back and better then ever.
4. Mickey Rooney. He has one of the longest list of credits for any child star and deserved his spot on the list. One of the series that he made was, “Andy Hardy”.
3. Judy Garland. One of my personal favorites. I don’t even think I have to list the movie that made her so famous. Of course I will anyways. “The Wizard of Oz”, hands down one of the best movies ever.
2. Macaulay Culkin. He was my favorite as a youngster having grown up with the “Home Alone” movies. He later served as another warning of why being a child star is so hard.
1.Shirley Temple. I know you saw this one coming. President Roosevelt said, “As long as our country has Shirley Temple, we will be all right,”. I think that says it all as far as why she made number one. Of course if that isn’t enough the fact that she was the top-grossing box office star for four years in a row is pretty fantastic too.
